The second of the unnoficial training runs for the Lesotho Ultra Trail will take place on Saturday, 3rd August. Check will be at the SA border control at 7:30am. From there it's a 45 min drive to the top and the running will start by approx. 8:30am. The route will take approximately 6.5 hrs and should arrive at Drakensberg Gardens at 15:00. The route will finish at the KZN Wildlife campsite. This is a lovely venue for friends and family to relax while waiting for the runners. There are ablutions and showers available, so come prepared.
Please note that passports are essential for the border! You will also need 4x4 transport to the top of Sani and collection from the finish at Drakensberg Gardens. We have a couple 4x4's with drivers with limited space still available. Alternatively, Major Adventures are offering a shuttle service leaving from Underberg village and will return you there after the run for a fee of R600 per person.
This route is definitely for the adventurous as there are no clearly marked paths on top and the descent from Rhino Peak is highly technical. A couple of the ladies in the group have a facebook page and more details will appear here. Be sure to take a look at the photos from the last run to Rhino Peak. https://www.facebook.com/MomsRunningMountains
Sufficient numbers are expected to split into two groups based on ability if necessary. Group leaders know the route and will keep their groups together. We don't want anyone getting lost in Lesotho! While the run will not be highly demanding, please realise that we are running on the high berg and there is no viable escape route should you get injured. While there are mountain passes along the way they are far from the nearest road and so are not viable as escape routes. We do not have any race infrastructure in place and you are entirely responsible for your own safety. It is essential that each person is adequately equipped for extreme cold and rain and I will send out a recommended kit list closer to the time.
