2016 Race Date-  Saturday 26 November

In the heart of the Lesotho Highlands lies the Maluti Mountains, some of the best terrain for high altitude running in the world. Serving as the “veins” of this region, an intricate network of trails exists along the valleys and mountain flanks, connecting many of the remote villages. Used primarily by livestock and shepherds, many of the mountain passes have been established by hand, allowing people and animals to pass through the Maluti Mountain Range on foot. It is this ancient philosophy of man's primal need to explore and conquer his surrounding terrain that has lead to the development of the Lesotho Ultra Trail, Africa's first Ultra Skymarathon®.

The Race
Lesotho Ultra Trail is an amazing way to finish your running year, taking place on the last weekend of November, its timed perfectly to take you into December and the festive season. Presented by The North Face and Metropolitan Lesotho and hosted by Maliba Lodge, LUT is an incredible mix of people from all over the world. Competitive runners will be coming from afar. Canada, USA, UK, Spain, Norway, Australia, South Africa and Lesotho will be represented by competitive and non-competitive runners alike. The podium will be contested hotly, but most runners taking on the challenge will just be going for a finish!

The Budget Package
In the spirit of trail running we have created a value package that makes the race affordable to most. This trans-border operation is not a 'cheap to run', but it’s important to us as the race organisers to provide as much opportunity to all runners out there. In this spirit we have created a budget package where runners can choose to stay in dorm style accommodation or self-camp (bringing your own equipment). The package does not include meals allowing you to either self cater, or book meals with Maliba Lodge directly (the food is unbelievably good). If you would prefer a package with food and tented accommodation (you only have to bring bedding) on Maliba property then contact them directly on 031 7068791.

50km vs 38km

The full 50km challenge is tough, so this year for the first time we have introduced the 38km route which comprises of the first 38km of the full challenge. Its not easy and still takes you right to the top of the Maluti Mountains at 3200m above sea level, but it’s a great option for those not ready for the full race yet.
Come and join us for an incredible weekend of trail running with trail runners from around the world!

Lesotho Ultra Trail 2015- Entries to open on 4 February
Looking back to #LUT2014: 136 runners from 9 countries started the 2014 LUT with only 10 forced to withdraw due to injury or cut-off. To have successfully executed the second edition of LUT is a very satisfying achievement for the entire organizational team. We've received many positive comments about the experience had by competitors, a true testament not only to the hard work that goes into an event like this, but also the passion of the ultra running community who support LUT and affirm its status as one of the...
